Bookish.

July 3, 2008

The best thing about books is that people keep writing more of them. This means that I will never, ever, ever run out of stuff to read.  I think my Facebook Virtual bookshelf is up to about 98 books now.  Most of them read, some on the list to read.  Going into a bookstore (mmmm, Chapters) is a very dangerous proposition for me.  The options seem endless, and books are my drug of choice.

Take last week:  I had a few minutes to kill while my colleague hit a store in the mall (we were in a large city, where they actually have decent shopping).  I went into Chapters.  Within 10 minutes I had 4 books.  Who can resist a “buy 3 get 1 free” sale??

I have to pack for our holiday back east tonight, and I’m not sure how many books to take.  4?  5?  More??  Of course, there’s always the great little used bookstore in the town we’re visiting….I could just add to my collection.  Speaking of the collection, I managed to cull it on the weekend.  Turns out my taste has changed rather dramatically.  Lots of books to move along.

Books are my escape and my relaxation.  I don’t know what to do with myself if I don’t have something to read.

The excitement that is my life….

June 4, 2008

Austin fell off his bike the other night - I had neglected to fix his wonky bike - and we ended up at the hospital for x-rays. For all his whining, it was just a sprain. I can only imagine what the yowling would be like if he’d broken something. Oy.

Jack got his new/replacement DS just before we headed out of town last Wednesday, which was perfect timing. As a bonus, Austin got to play with my dad’s DS all weekend, and they discovered just how much fun two of those things can be. Hell, I want one!! I kicked Austin’s butt at bowling, thank you very much.

The dentist appt last Friday went really well. It’s amazing how Jack doesn’t object when he’s slightly stoned and on laughing gas.

Saw SATC:The Movie on Friday night, at 10:45. We had a laugh at the girls who were dressed up in honour of the Fab Four from NYC, and really enjoyed the movie.

In other news, about which I can’t really speak, there are interesting goings-on in relation to my husband’s job. Specifically, where he might be working in the near future…..Woo!

Now Paging: Inspiration.

March 26, 2008

I have nothing to say.  I suppose the fact that I’m writing this means I do, in fact, have something to say.  But really, it’s nothing.

Life is a little bit boring right now, and I’m quite grateful.  The most interesting thing that happened to me in the last 24 hours?  My children calling home at 10 pm last night, desperate to come and see me (they’d stayed at a friend’s the night before, while I was out of town).  They came home and crashed with me.  Sweet boys I have.  This week has already been long, what with a trip north on Monday (including a visit with D en route), dinner with the other BC managers, meetings yesterday, and the drive home last night.

Spring cleaning is almost done.  I so love ridding myself of excess crap.

See?  Nothing.  Boring.  Maybe something interesting will occur to me today.

Miss me?

January 23, 2008

I’d bet nobody’s even reading anymore.  Maybe Betty.  And Special K.  Candy, you’d better be here…I hung in all those months your baby was a bum.  Remember?

So.  I’m back from the first business trip of 2008.  Which was quite enjoyable.  Great food (too much of it, but it’s my ass), a few drinks, and a climate much like home:  snow and damn cold.

I am also happy to report that I did talk with my doctor, and a plan is underway.  It’s already working, and I’m sleeping much better and feeling pretty good.  Whee!

I have to get back to my kids.  The ones I didn’t really miss until I was on the way home today.   Actually, I missed them enough to buy them each touristy t-shirts and mail postcards.  (they have yet to arrive)

Later.

I should probably pretend every month is November.

January 8, 2008

Maybe then I’d post.

It’s January.  Bleh.  This is possibly my least favourite month of the year, and I just realized that today.  December, with all it’s food, alcocohol, gifts and bonhomie, is gone.  Spring seems eons away.  And winter has settled in fully.  This means snow, snow, snow, and some more snow.  When it’s not snowing, it’s -25C.  Or +5C, when we get teased with melting snow.  Ha.  This crap isn’t melting for real until April.  Fun.

I simply don’t have much to say right now.  I continue to be too busy at work, too impatient with my children, and pissy in general.  Hopefully this will change soon, however.

I’m off on another business trip next week.  Woo.  The bright spot is that I’m flying to Vancouver first, and will have almost an entire day with my sister, and the evening with some great friends who always know how to make me laugh.

See?  Nothing.  Boring.  Bleh.  I’ll try harder next time.

Mulligan.

November 22, 2007

I think there should be mulligans in blogging.  This post counts because it’s being posted.  It’s just not saying much.

Long day.  Messy desk.  Wicked-tired 5 yr old (out cold by 7:30, yet again).  Good Thursday TV time.

G’night.

I’m blaming the moon.

November 20, 2007

I hate those dreams that you just can’t fucking escape.  You know the ones.  You’re dreaming, and the alarm goes off.  Smack the snooze (while mostly asleep) and the goddamn dream continues.  Repeat for 45 minutes.  Wake up mad.

I tamped it down for a while, talking nicely to the boys, asking them nicely (said with clenched teeth) to please keep it down and/or move it to the basement.  They complied.  Mostly.  I didn’t yell.  At all.  But I wanted to.  Is that just as bad?

This evening, while he was mid-spaz, I asked J if he showed that face to his teacher.  He said no, because he likes Kindergarten.  I took that to mean he doesn’t like it here, and he obliged by telling me so two minutes later.  Ah, five year olds.  So. Much. Fun. Or is it just MY five year old?

Had a lovely chat with D tonight, and I feel a bit restored.   God, I miss having him here.

Gotta go ….The Tudors is on!

Intentions gone awry.

November 19, 2007

Serves me right, posting twice yesterday. I thought I’d freaking posted already today. Bah.

Too busy at work. Kids at 50% Annoyance Capacity. Tired no matter the sleep I get.

Your basic same old, same old.

And on that note, I’m going to bed. 5:30 comes early.

TGIF, I guess.

November 16, 2007

It’s Friday, but I’m working tomorrow.  After being off all week.  How weird is that?  I hope to catch up on a few things.

Today’s been nice - installed the new bolt on the garage door, so I can rest easy knowing that nobody can just flip up the catch and come on in.  I also bolted my IKEA coat hooks to the pine board I bought on Wednesday, and then bolted the whole thing to the wall.  I like it much more than the one that’s been in that spot since we moved here.  I’d take a photo, but someone absconded with my digital camera almost three weeks ago.  Men.

I have yet to start painting, although I did manage to pick up primer and another set of brushes/roller/tray.  Perhaps I’ll do some priming before dinner.  Wait, I need to eat lunch.  Have been slaving away at the paperwork pile for over two hours - turns out I was a wee bit behind on the SPCA stuff - and I just realized I’m starving.

Hm.  I think I’ll have some toast.

Winter.

November 15, 2007

It snowed yesterday.  I’ve been cold for days on end, trying to adjust to the onslaught of winter.  It’s not working.  I’ll be fine by the time we hit -35C, but the beginning of the cold weather always bothers me.

Today is bread day.  It’s on the second rise, and then it’s going to make my house smell heavenly.  Can’t wait.  I’ll be eating nothing but homemade bread for the next day or nine.  Yum!

My to-do list is slowly shrinking:  I’ve cleaned the house a bit, started the vacuuming, got the paint tinted and bought the necessary supplies, and J’s glasses are on order.  Tomorrow is painting day, and I hope to have my SPCA paperwork done tonight.  It’s not difficult stuff, just a minor annoyance every month.

The snow has melted somewhat, so I’m hoping to get the gutters done tomorrow.  Oh, the excitement.
